As many of you may know (or for those that don't) Lauren ran her first two half-marathon's last year in Miami, joining Andy & Glenna with the Footworks training program. Well, with the soon to be grandparents moving to South Carolina this past summer, Lauren was able to convince me to join the training program in preparation for the ING Miami Half Marathon in late January, 2011. Obviously we found out in late summer that Lauren was pregnant, so we talked with two of her doctors and both told us it was perfectly safe and healthy for Lauren to continue running. She just needed to stay hydrated and not over-exert herself. With Footworks, they offer many different training programs and pace groups. Last year, Lauren ran the 2/1 group (run 2 minutes, walk 1 minute) and was planning to increase to the 3/1 group this year. Well, with the pregnancy, we decided to stay with the 2/1 group and it has been going well so far. The 1 minute walk breaks in between really help and Lauren has been doing great (and I'm faring pretty well myself). During the week, we run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings after work and the distance is about 3.8 miles. These are our mid-week "fun runs" and just helps you keep some momentum going until the weekend. Every Saturday morning, we get up early (I mean sometimes we are up before 5:00 a.m.) for our long-distance training runs. Each week, we add distance and this past Saturday, we ran 8 miles. In the coming weeks we will continue to build on our progress in preparation for the Half-Marathon (which is 13.1 miles).
All of this correlates into the title of today's post...Run Baby Run. You see, as Lauren continues to run, so is little boy Harris and we've received a few gifts recently that will help him quickly join in this family experience when he's born. We wanted to share them with you.
These little running shoes were given to us by our good friend, Jordan Wilson, who also is in our running group. Jordan and I went to grad school together and she has remained one of our close friends here in Miami. Thanks Jordan for getting Squirt ready to run!
Our second gift was a running stroller from Brett & Lisa Koch. Brett & Lisa work with me at IMG and weren't using this stroller. We were glad to take it off their hands and help them clear some garage space. So, while Squirt won't be able to run for a few years, he will be able to go with us thanks to this great stroller. It folds up pretty compact and the larger wheels help make it easier for pushing when running. Now we just need to put some air in the tires and we are ready to run. Thanks Brett & Lisa!
Lauren has set a goal to finish the half-marathon this coming January. We don't care about the pace, time, or anything else, but what a great accomplishment it will be for her to finish the race as she approaches the beginning of her 8 month mark! I'm glad she got me involved this year because I think it sets a great foundation for us to continue to stay active once our little boy arrives.
As we have just passed the 20 week mark in the pregnancy, we have a few new pictures of Lauren for you to check out. She's slowly starting to develop a little bump, as you can see below. It's funny though, because I feel like I have noticed her bump more this week in the normal course of our day than I do in these pictures. Not sure how that works, but if I get a chance to sneak in a picture where I can see it more, I will capture the moment for ya'll! Until next time, here are a few 20 week pictures of Lauren, Squirt and dog Parker.
